Happy Hour Events and A Sweet Affair Events partnered with sponsors to host the inaugural Cocktails and Cupcakes March 21, at The Station on Kings. The idea was conceived to celebrate amazing business women in Sussex County while giving a hand up to young girls. The event offered tastings of five cupcakes created by The Station on Kings, Bethany Blues, Lefty’s Alley & Eats, Blue Moon and Three Blonde Bakers. Attendees were asked to donate gently used dresses and accessories to benefit The Formal Dress Project, a nonprofit organization that provides formal attire to local young girls.
The competition was judged by Bob Yesbek, Rehoboth Foodie; Dru Tevis, executive pastry chef; and Alexis Taylor of Blonde Cravings. The judges’ winning cupcake was from The Station on Kings, a coconut cake with passion fruit curd topped with mango buttercream and candied pistachios. Winning the popular vote was the crowd favorite from Bethany Blues, a lemon blueberry cupcake with a lemon cream cheese frosting. In addition to the winners, other delights served were Lefty’s devil’s food cupcake with strawberry buttercream dipped in chocolate, and Blue Moon’s chocolate cupcake with Chambord buttercream, while Three Blonde Bakers provided a chocolate coconut cupcake with caramel buttercream icing dipped in chocolate and rolled in toasted coconut.
The event gathered about 200 dresses, and organizers expect to have more than 350 at the time of the shopping event.
